OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE in K-W area with DIVEST WATERLOO and CROW SHIELD LODGE You are invited to participate in Divest Waterloo's final food forest build of the season at Crow Shield Lodge (1044 Christner Rd, New Hamburg). A team of volunteers will be planting at the lodge on Saturday September 25th, and they need your help! You would work alongside the helpers at the lodge to plant their fedge and work together towards solidarity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.Crow Shield Lodge has as their mission "to walk alongside those who are in need of healing. Through Indigenous land-based healing and education they offer connection and belonging to a community dedicated to responsible land stewardship."We will start the build at 10am, and continue until we are done. We have a lot of plants, but with many hands, we hope to be finished by mid-afternoon.Once you confirm your interest and availability by emailing Laura Hamilton (laura@divestwaterloo.ca), you will receive directions and more details about the day. This project is powerful not only because it naturalizes landscape, creates habitat and attracts native pollinators with low-maintenance, drought-tolerant native species but also because it builds community and by supporting ongoing engagement with the land that sustains us, it has the potential to change the relationships that citizens across the region have each other and with our ecosystem. These are all critical elements of resilience in the face of the climate crisis.**Divest Waterloo is the KW chapter of Faith and the Common Good (FCG): a national interfaith network composed of people who share a calling to protect our ecosystem and a passion for community service. We work collectively to raise awareness and encourage action to ensure that all living beings, including future generations, have access to clean air and water, toxic-free living environments, and a life-supporting climate. ...
