SUMMARY:Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion – Online
DESCRIPTION:Join us online Wednesday\, September 24th at 10:00-11:30 AM for Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion\, and take your acknowledgement of Territory to the next level by considering the Spiritual Covenant.  \nMany congregations who have been acknowledging the territory for the past few years are asking what meaningful action they can take to move their acknowledgment from words to actions. You are invited to Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion\, an online opportunity to begin the conversation about making a spiritual covenant. \nYou’re warmly invited\nto this special event featuring Adrian Jacobs of the Turtle Clan\, Cayuga Nation\, sharing on the Spiritual Covenant—a reflection on land\, relationship\, and reconciliation on Wednesday\, September 24th\, from 10:00-11:30 AM. \nAdrian Jacobs will offer a leadership in this workshop and communion service that will inform and inspire the discernment of churches on any traditional territory who wish to consider concrete action to live into their acknowledgment of territory. The workshop and worship will be grounded in history and scripture\, and will invite you to deeper relationship with the land and the peoples on the land\, and the Creator\, Christ and Spirit. (For more information about the Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion and the Spiritual Covenant\, see below.) \nThe road to a decision about a faithful action by your community of faith is an ongoing journey. Come prepared to engage and to learn\, and then bring your reflections to your home church for prayerful consideration. \nBread and Juice for Communion\nThis workshop will include an online communion service\, so have your own juice and bread ready. For juice\, you are invited to honour Indigenous tradition with strawberry juice\, a local Indigenous medicine.  If you would like to make strawberry juice\, here is a simple recipe you can use:\nhttps://tworowtimes.com/healthy-roots/jihsodahk-the-leader-of-the-plants/. If you are not able to use strawberry juice\, feel free to bring any fruit juice of your choice. \nRegister in advance for this event:\nhttps://united-church.zoom.us/meeting/register/2BNM7atZRhKNuAGAeO_1nA\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRead More Here

SUMMARY:Discernment Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Discernment Retreat \nDate: Saturday September 20\, 2025 \nTime: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nPlace: Grace UC\, Hanover \nCost: $25:00 \nLed by: Betty Pries of Credence & Co. \nRegister Now Here – Registration Form \nSpace is limited to 50 people. Please register early to ensure a spot. \nPart 1:\nNurturing a Spirit of Discernment in Congregational Decision-Making \nCongregational discernment differs from decision-making in critical ways. When a spirit of discernment and listening for God’s leading precedes the decisions that congregations must make\, these decisions are more robust and more grace-filled. This session defines discernment and decision-making\, offers strategies for discernment\, and explores spiritual practices to undergird congregational discernment practices. \nPart 2:\nLeading Discernment Conversations \nThis theme considers key strategies critical for those leading discernment conversations: Clear purpose and focus questions\, an agenda that moves items naturally from introduction to discernment to decision\, tools for building buy-in\, momentum and consensus\, alongside effective strategies for engaging participant comments (including those that are experienced as less-than-helpful). \n\nQuestions about this event can be directed to John Neff\, Congregational Support Minister at JNeff@united-church.ca

SUMMARY:Ask An Expert
DESCRIPTION:We’re trying something new. We’re introducing an Ask An Expert series in partnership with the General Council Office. You ask the questions\, and we’ll provide the expertise. \nWho are the experts? Well\, it depends on the topic and staff availability. \nMaybe you want to know more about the insurance partnership between the GCO and Communities of Faith. Or what you do when the local newspaper calls (or when you want to get a good story out). Or what the new government relations officer does. Or what the cost-of-living-adjustment is. \nIt’s kind of like a Pick-Your-Own-Adventure book. Here’s how it works: \n1. You send us your questions here: https://forms.office.com/r/q7UM9spU9z \n2. We find the expert who can answer them. \n3. We all tune in on Wednesday September 18th\, 7-8 p.m. by Zoom here: https://united-church.zoom.us/j/89972136949 \n4. As many questions will be answered as can be within the allotted time. Unanswered questions will carry over to the next session\, or we’ll answer them on our Regional Council Facebook group. \n5. Tough questions are okay. We’ll do our best to answer them\, and if we can’t on the spot\, we’ll follow up with the right information. \nSo\, pick your adventure. Will it be insurance? Or grants? Climate justice? Governance? Media relations? Government relations? Global partnerships? Or something else? \nYou pick. SUMMARY:HF Retired Clergy Online Gathering
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of Horseshoe Falls Regional Council\, the Human Resources Commission has been seeking to redress a lack of connection between the regional council and retirees since the dissolution of presbyteries. This has included creating a contact list of retirees in our region and finding a connection point in the structure. Happily\, the Human Resources Commission has included relating to retirees as part of its mandate and our Minister for Pastoral Support\, the Rev. Kevin Steeper\, will also serve as a resource in this effort. Our next step is to host a regional council wide online gathering: \n\nto connect with one another\,\nto explore how we all might best relate to one another;\nto listen to the ideas you may have for gatherings in smaller groupings and how the region might best support you.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for you to gather in geographic groupings to self-organize.From an earlier email to many of you\, we received a suggestion that we might invite a national staff person to join us at a gathering once a year to hear about the wider church and to answer questions you may have. General Secretary\, the Rev. Dr. Michael Blair\, has graciously agreed to be with us for part of our meeting to do just that.Save the Date!Join us on February 13\, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. online. Watch for the meeting link to come after the new year.We recognize that not everyone has online access. If you know of a colleague who would appreciate being present\, perhaps you could invite them to join  you.

SUMMARY:Admission Matching Committee
DESCRIPTION:Are you from a church without a minister? Are you a member of a search team and looking for your next ministry personnel? Are you a pastoral relations liaison? Are you interested in knowing more about the admission process and more importantly the matching pilot project this online open house is for you? If so\, you are invited to an online Open House with the Admission Matching Task Group. This hour long gathering will happen through Zoom on Sunday November 19th at 4 pm EST. \nThe Admission Matching Committee’s work is part of a pilot project to bridge the gap between Ministers who are available and excited to work in The United Church of Canada and Communities of Faith who need a minister. This Open House will include an introduction to the Admission Matching pilot program\, stories from people with experience of Admission ministry\, an overview of the Admission process\, answers to frequently asked questions about admission ministers\, and some time for any questions you might have. It will be particularly useful to people from congregations without a minister\, pastoral relations liaisons\, and advocates for equity\, diversity\, and inclusion within The United Church of Canada. \n\n \nTo register for this free program\, please send your name\, location\, email\, and reason for registering to Beverly at btyhurst@united-church.ca.
